The Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA) in Flagstaff, AZ, is looking for an experienced transit professional to serve as its next General Manager/CEO (GM/CEO) when the current GM/CEO retires this fall.

The Authority operates the Mountain Line, Mountain Lift and Mountain Link systems serving the vibrant Flagstaff/Coconino County community, and safely transports over 2 million riders a year. NAIPTA also coordinates with Campus Shuttle Service at the 30,000 student Northern Arizona University, as well as directly serves Coconino County Community College.

Flagstaff/Coconino County is nestled at the base of the San Francisco Peaks and surrounded by breathtaking scenery, history, and culture as well as multiple national parks and the largest pine forests on earth. Desired Skills and Experience

The NAIPTA Board is looking for a candidate who will be:

A collaborative partner with a demonstrable past of progressive senior management experience in the transit field to continue and build upon the system’s unsurpassed reputation for providing visionary, safe, clean and efficient service to the community.

A proven leader with both exceptional interpersonal and administrative skills who will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the NAIPTA system, including capital and operating budgets & finance, administration, strategic and service planning, policy analysis, procurement, contract management, capital project implementation, marketing, customer service, legal, technology and safety.

Fully committed to a career in the transit industry, and understands the interdependency of transit and successful community and economic development.

An excellent communicator who understands and respects the Board/Management relationship as well as NAIPTA’s role in the larger Flagstaff community.

An individual who will be particularly adept at handling external relations with partners such as the NAIPTA’s Transit Advisory Committee (TAC), various community groups, and business organizations, as well as with state and federal entities such as the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Arizona Department of Transportation, in order to enhance sustainable support for the system.

Someone with a history of successful workforce development, who, internally, will nurture the existing staff, leverage its extraordinary talent, and embrace its collaborative culture.

A visionary and thoughtful leader who will be focused on achieving the goals of the current 5-year strategic plan while thinking ahead and helping to craft new goals for the future to ensure continued world-class customer service.

A GM/CEO who will work in concert with the Board to take a hands-on approach to continue an ongoing legacy of educating the community about the benefits of transit.
